#1- Research & Shop Around
It never hurts to know the market. Research a handful of wedding planners that you can compare. While comparing, be mindful of your budget. Make sure that they a certified through the Wedding Planning Institute of Canada and have experience.
#2 – Meet with your Top Choices
This is the stage where you get narrow down your search. It is very important to meet your potential wedding planners in person. Upon meeting them, put together a few photos and any ideas that you have. During this meeting share with them your vision and style for the wedding. A good planner should be able to listen to your thoughts. Ask about their working style, the services they provide, and how many weddings they work on at time. Get to know them and see if your vision and their actions can come together to bring your dream day to life.
#3 – Is there a spark?
Trust your gut on this one. Remember you would want to be on same page as your planner. Make sure there is chemistry and that you connect with them, because you will be working closely with them. You’re relying on this person to pull off one of the most important days of your life, so make sure you feel a connection and can work well together.
#4 – Call References
It’s important to not feel pressured to hire a planner on the spot. Be sure to call references. A few questions to ask:
- Did she stay within your budget?
- Were the style and wedding exactly what you wanted?
- Did she recommend good vendor and coordinate well with other vendors?
- Was she quick to respond to your calls or emails?
- Was she nice to work with?
- Did anything go wrong, and how she handled it?
#5- Seal the deal
Once you’ve decided on a planner, call them and pop the question; “Will you be our wedding day event planner?” Upon agreement, kindly request they prepare a contract. Once you’ve signed the contract and paid your deposit, you’ll have your right-hand secured. Time to enjoy the ride and most importantly, have fun!
